Denim is tough, but harsh washing fades the colour and loosens the fit. A few habits keep a good pair looking good for years.
How often
Jeans do not need washing after every wear. In Indian weather, many people wash after three to five wears, sooner if they get sweaty or dirty.
How to wash
- Turn them inside out and zip them up.
- Use cool or lukewarm water and a gentle cycle.
- Use a detergent made for dark colours, and wash with similar colours.
How to dry
Hang to dry in shade. Direct sun fades colour, and a hot tumble dryer shrinks denim and wears out stretch fibres. Give them a shake before hanging to reduce creasing.
Stretch denim and dark raw denim
Stretch jeans lose their recovery in high heat. Raw or very dark denim bleeds dye, so wash it separately the first few times.
